Implementation of the Unified Communications System

KAMAZ Group of Companies had actively used Microsoft Lync Server 2010 as an instant
messaging and voice calling system before.
In connection with the increase in the requirements for mobility of the employees and efficiency
of interoffice communications and communications with business partners, it became necessary
to implement a project to expand the Lync Server 2010 functions.
As soon as the new version of Microsoft Lync Server with expanded functionality entered the
market in 2013, it was decided to move onto Microsoft Lync 2013.


  1. Increase the efficiency of corporate communications


As it is known, KAMAZ Group of Companies, the largest automotive corporation in Russia,
opted for Data Center at the Technopark in the sphere of high technologies «IT-park» to host its
IT systems. In this regard, the experts of both companies faced the task of placing critical Lync
services in the Data Center of Kazan-based IT Park. What concerns the remaining non-critical
components of external and mobile access, it was decided to deploy them at their own location.
The next stage of the project included the «transition» of all users (more than 1,000) from the old
Lync 2010 to the new platform without any delay or failure in service for users.
Joint efforts were undertaken to set up the federation of Lync Server at KAMAZ with the unified
communication systems based on Lync Server of such companies as SAP, Bearing Point,
Microsoft, ICL — KME CS, Softline and others.
Within the framework of the project, certified equipment for audio and video conferences of such
world manufacturers as Microsoft, Jabra, Logitech, was used for testing the operation of the
unified communications system.
A distinctive feature of the project was the approach to implementation: the focus was put on the
way for the KAMAZ specialists to independently manage and develop the system without
involving any third party companies in the future.


As a result of the project, KAMAZ received a unified communications platform at the corporate
level based on Microsoft Lync Server 2013, including all additional features of the new version,
such as more convenient interface, advanced video conferencing and meeting capabilities over
the network, simple and secure access from a mobile device and much more.
The implemented project of unified communications based on Lync 2013 enabled the customer
to expand the functionality of the earlier used platform and find new ways to use the system.
This made it possible to increase the productivity of employees and improve the quality of
communications in general.


Currently, Lync is installed on more than 1,000 workstations and this is just the beginning.
During the project implementation, specialists from both companies did a great job in a short
time, prepared and provided the necessary technical documentation.
